Historic Downtown Bryan Veterans Weekend Celebration
Nov. 7th - 9th, 2008
Recorded history tells us that in 1917 during a celebration in Historical Downtown Bryan
there was a WWI tank displayed in the middle of town and this year - 91 years later we
will reenact that celebration. Make downtown Bryan your weekend destination and support
our veterans, our local businesses and the Museum of the American G.I.
Friday Nov 7th Veterans Weekend Kickoff Celebration - Art Step is kicking off Veterans Weekend with a red, white and blue theme
with Bryan Parks & Rec. & Atmos sponsoring Live Entertainment from 6-8pm and showing the movie,
Forrest Gump from 7pm-9pm. We have free popcorn and other surprises for the kids.
Saturday Nov. 8th starts with a convoy of military equipment from the Museum of the
American G.I.( "Suzie" - WWII M-5A1 Stuart Tank, "Tarheel" - WWII M-3 75mm ½ track
self-propelled gun, "Miss Emily" - WWII M-8 Armored Car, WWII Ford GPA Amphibious Jeep
and WWII MB Willy's Jeep) led by General George Patton. Arriving College Station - 9:30am at
Hwy 6 & Texas Ave. traveling down Texas Ave arriving in Bryan about 10am. From noon to 6pm Saturday and noon to 5:30pm Sunday the equipment
will be displayed on 26th Street in Bryan. The Masonic Lodge and Downtown 202 will be
converted into veterans museums displaying our historical Brazos Valley military
history. The museums will be opened from noon to 6pm Saturday and noon to 5:30pm Sunday.
Sunday Nov 9th our yearly Veterans Celebration will kick off at noon with equipment displays,
veterans museums, entertainment from 12:30pm - 5pm presented by Names & Numbers Phone
Book in the Palace Theater starting at 12:30am with the presentation of the colors.1:00pm a Patriotic performance by BV Troupe and then Karan
Chavis will take the stage from 1:45pm-2:30pm and again after the parade at 3:30pm.
At 2:30pm we will have a Air Force C-130 Fly Over to start our Bryan Rotary Club Veterans
Parade.
College Station Veterans Events
Nov. 10th - 11th, 2008
Mon. Nov. 10th The event is a public reading of personal
reflections. Its goal is to present the diversity of war's impact on our lives.
6:00-8:00 p.m. at Friends Congregational Church, 2200 Southwood Drive, College Station.

Tues. Nov 11th at 6pm Come out for the Veterans Day Ceremony to honor the veterans
of the Brazos Valley followed by a BBQ Dinner.
The Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Board of Directors invites all donors, veterans,
and the public to attend the 2008 Dedication Ceremony. The names of 171 veterans will
be added to the wall of honor for 2008. These additional names bring the total number
of veterans recognized at the memorial to 4,103.
The event will begin at 6:00 PM on Veterans Day, November 11th at Veterans Park and
Athletic Complex in College Station. Congressman Chet Edwards will provide the keynote
address. Members of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Ross Volunteers will participate
in this patriotic ceremony.
A Veterans Day BBQ will take place immediately following the ceremony at the American
Pavilion in Veterans Park and Athletic Complex. The BBQ serves as a fundraiser with the
proceeds being split between the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial and the Museum of the
American GI. Tickets are $8.00 each and will be available at the event.
Parking is available at the soccer fields and at the softball complex. We encourage you
and your family to attend.
All donations/proceeds from this year's weekend celebration in Historical Downtown Bryan
will go to the Museum of the American G.I. (www.magicstx.org) in College Station who is
trying to raise the funds to reassemble the USS Iwo Jima island as the main component of their
museum infrastructure.
Monies raised from the Veterans Fellowship BBQ at College Station
Veterans Memorial Park will be split between the Museum of the American G.I. and Brazos
Valley Veterans Memorial.

Courtesy of Bryan Rotary Club - American Flags will be put up in downtown Bryan Thursday
evening and remain until Weds Nov 12th .
